2010 National Training Conference on the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) and Environmental Conditions in Communities
Thank you for your interest in submitting an abstract for the 2010 National Training Conference on the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) and Environmental Conditions in Communities. We are no longer accepting abstracts as the deadline for submissions has passed.
Call for Abstracts for Oral Presentations, Posters, and Electronic Demonstrations
Abstracts due July 9, 2010
This is a "Call for Abstracts for Oral Presentations, Posters and Electronic Demonstrations" for the National Training Conference on the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) and Environmental Conditions in Communities that will be held on November 1–4, 2010, in Washington, D.C., at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park Hotel. This year's conference expands on previous TRI National Training conferences to include sessions on other environmental information and data associated with the conditions and trends in ecological and human health that collectively help to support environmentally-related decision making in communities.
Co-sponsors of this year's conference — The Environmental Council of the States (ECOS), World Resources Institute (WRI) and United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) — invite you to submit an abstract for oral presentations, posters and electronic demonstrations on the theme of "Connecting Communities and Decision-makers with Environmental Information." Abstracts will be accepted through June 25, 2010. This is your opportunity to present knowledge, share experiences, and voice expectations and aspirations related to TRI topics and our newly expanded scope addressing information about environmental conditions. ECOS, WRI and U.S. EPA are collaborating in this conference to provide a better understanding and use of a broad array of environmental information aligning with the Administration's call for open government and transparency, participation and collaboration.
Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:
- Understanding the Impacts of Toxic Chemical Releases to Air, Water, and/or Land
- Using TRI Data in Conjunction with Other Environmental Information
- Communicating and Understanding TRI Data
- Using TRI Data and Analytical Tools
- Enhancing Community Engagement and Collaboration
- Expanding the Use of TRI for Environmental Justice
Abstracts that do not fit exactly into one of these categories will also be considered. Oral presentations, posters and electronic demonstrations selected in response to this call for abstracts will be given on November 2–3, 2010. Presentations from the 2009 TRI National Training Conference can be found at http://www.chemicalright2know.com/events/past.
Abstracts should promote outreach, learning and networking among federal, state, and local government agencies, students, academic institutions, non-governmental organizations, community groups, scientists, engineers and other professionals interested in understanding and using environmental information on toxic releases and environmental conditions. In addition to individual presentations, we encourage you to contact your colleagues and suggest ideas for panel discussions.
Guidelines for Submission
- Abstracts should contain an overview of the topic, indicate the format envisioned (oral presentation, poster and/or electronic demonstration), and provide full contact information for each presenter. Please indicate whether oral presentations will be given by an individual or a panel. Abstracts should be no more than 300 words.
- Please obtain a definite commitment that each presenter is available to participate in the training conference on either November 2 or 3, 2010.
- Authors of accepted abstracts will receive a confirmation email by July 21, 2010, with an acceptance form that must be returned. The due date of the acceptance form will be contained in the email. The confirmation email will also include specific instructions and formatting for presentations, posters and demonstrations.
