TRI National Training Conference to be Held Every 18 Months

After much discussion and listening to your comments at the 2009 TRI National Training Conference about the possibility of moving the frequency of the conference from annual to a biennial event, we concluded that a good balance would be to hold the conference every 18 months. This will allow us to spend the time necessary to plan a useful and thoughtful conference, and minimize travel cost and time for the participants.

ECOS (under our cooperative agreement) proposes to work with the EPA TRI Program to organize and conduct a TRI National Training Conference in Fall 2010 that seeks to increase interactions among state, tribal, and federal representatives, and other stakeholders and to bolster understanding of the TRI Programs. This first meeting on the new 18 month cycle will be held during a two-and-a-half-day period in Fall 2010, and subsequent meetings will be held in Spring 2012, and Fall 2013.

In making this an eighteen month event, this will allow more time for topics/issues to develop among all stakeholders including NGO's such as the EJ community, along with the opportunity for EPA Regions to collaborate with their state counterparts on ways to enhance the TRI program.

Stay tuned for more details. Prior to the meeting, ECOS will request assistance from national and regional EPA TRI staff, state and tribal representatives, and other stakeholders to select topics and jointly establish an agenda for the meeting.

If you have additional questions or concerns on this topic, please contact Kelley Ann Lovelace of ECOS at 202-624-3660.
